Feneti Mohamed is a community builder and emerging leader with a passion for youth empowerment, civic engagement, and social research. As a student at Brown University concentrating both in International & Political Science and Social Analysis & Research, Feneti bridges academic knowledge with grassroots organizing to create opportunities for East African youth in Minnesota and beyond.
Feneti’s leadership journey has centered on amplifying the voices of underrepresented communities and fostering intergenerational collaboration. At Brown, Feneti has served as Service Chair of the Muslim Students Association, led the Identity, Race Awareness, and Cultural Education (IRACE) conference, and conducted original research on issues ranging from maternal incarceration to community, with an emphasis on youth violence. These experiences reflect a deep commitment to using data, storytelling, and advocacy to drive meaningful change.
As Co-Founder of the East African Leadership Institute, Feneti brings a vision rooted in cultural pride and youth leadership. Their work focuses on creating mentorship and leadership opportunities, healing-centered spaces, and pathways for young people to engage in civic and community life. Drawing from both academic training and lived experience, Feneti plays a key role in designing leadership initiatives that are responsive to the challenges and aspirations of East African immigrant communities.
Feneti aspires to continue building platforms that equip the next generation with the tools to lead with confidence, purpose, and integrity.
“My goal is to bridge the gap between the youth and civic engagement, and create a space where we feel seen, heard, and empowered to shape our own futures while uplifting our communities.”
