Understanding Postural Balance
Introduction – Why Postural Balance Matters
Every movement you make, from walking to standing still, is influenced by how your brain and body interact. When your posture is imbalanced, it can lead to chronic pain, tension, and movement restrictions, even without any physical injury.
At Alita’s Hair & Massage Center, we go beyond traditional massage therapy. We integrate Postural Restoration Therapy (PRI) principles to help restore movement, reduce tension, and bring your body into balance.
- How postural imbalances affect your body
- The connection between brain perception and movement dysfunction
- How our specialized therapies help restore balance and relieve pain
What is Postural Balance & Why is It Important?
Postural balance is not just about standing up straight—it’s about how your body naturally shifts weight, moves, and responds to tension.
⇒ A balanced body = pain-free movement & natural alignment
⇒ An imbalanced body = restricted movement & chronic tension
Most people unknowingly develop a dominant side (usually the right), causing pelvic shifts, muscular imbalances, and tension buildup. Over time, this can lead to:
- Lower back pain & tight hips
- Chronic muscle stiffness
- Poor flexibility & mobility restrictions
- Tension headaches & neck discomfort

Your Brain Controls How You Move—PRI Helps Reprogram It!
Unlike traditional therapies that focus only on muscles and joints, PRI therapy addresses how your brain processes movement, posture, and balance. If your brain perceives misalignment, it creates tension, making movement restricted and painful. PRI works by restoring this natural balance.
✅ What PRI Focuses On:
- Brain perception of movement
- Vision & auditory influence on posture
- Breathing techniques for nervous system balance
Did You Know? Most People Are Stuck in a One-Sided Postural Pattern!
Most of us unknowingly favor one side of our body. This creates postural imbalances, leading to pain, tension, and movement restrictions. If left uncorrected, these issues can worsen over time.
The left AIC pattern is characterized by asymmetries within specific muscles such as the left hemisphere of the diaphragm, psoas, vastus lateralis, medial hamstring, and associated ligaments and tendons, creating positional and compensatory myokinematic relationships in one or more areas of the trunk.
✅ The Left AIC Pattern (Most Common Imbalance)
✔️ Pelvic shift to the right causes imbalance.
✔️ Left hip restriction leads to stiffness and discomfort.
✔️ Overactive right side causes tightness & tension.

Alita did a great job identifying an imbalance that was causing some muscle pain and tension, and by the end of the session the pain was gone. She worked a bunch of trigger points and it really gave me a ton of relief. Lip ripper 5612024-11-17Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I moved here to Florida 4 months ago from Colorado. My work back in colorado required a lot of heavy lifting so I came here to Florida already with a sore and painfull back amd had suffered a triple hernia with surgery in colorado. My work here is not as demanding but still requires twisting my body and pulling my weight up at times. I called several other massage companies to get in for a session only to be told by them they were booked out or that I would have to wait as a walk in and even then might not be seen the same day. Although alita was busy, she made the time for me and within 2 hours, i went to see Alita in a lot of pain and could barely walk or stand. I was not expecting much of an improvement to be honest due to how much pain I was in and being used to the pain for years from the surgery.... I couldn't have been more wrong! Alita knowledge of the muscles and the human body is remarkable! I had a 90 min session with deep tissue work, hot stones and massage, n3ck and cranial work. Alita told me due to how bad my muscles and tension are, and that she would not be able to make me feel 100 pecent with just one session ( her honesty in explaining this info was greatly appreciated) BUT, I walked out of there feeling a heck of a lot better than I expected!!! ( knowing I would need more treatments moving forward) he even gave me advise on things i can do for now tk keep the pain at bay unil my next session. I definitely recommend Alita and will be going again for future treatments. jim robertson2024-09-20Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Unbelievable, she helped my shoulders and lower back to almost pain free. Glexi Garcia2024-08-04Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. She is truly skilled! I called her because I pulled my back at the gym and she quickly knew what I needed. Within 90 minutes my pain decreased from 10 to maybe a light discomfort of 3. It wasn't anything that I expected in the best way possible. I am so glad I went to her and will definitely will be recommending her to all my friends and family. Today, I was a bit sore, but the overall range of motion is incredible and I feel a big difference with how I feel... BETTER!!!!! Alita is an amazing Massage Therapist... About five years ago I was in a accident. I was rear-ended pretty bad. I've had terrible lower back pain and limited head and neck movement since. My chiropractor is really good and did his best, but his skills really didn't help like I thought it would. Living here in Saint Lucie for 20 years and I never thought of going in for a massage. So I came across Alita's Hair and Therapeutic Massage. Glad I did! Her other reviews gave me the push I needed! I went in for a 90 min. session, which I recommend. After answering a few questions about myself and explaining my issues to Alita, she went to work on my problem areas of my body. OMG, it was a deep tissue massage that was very much needed!!! She worked on my head, neck, shoulders, lower back, legs and abdomen. She even used hot stones on my back which felt amazing!!!! Don't let this beautiful little lady fool ya, she's a powerhouse with her knowledge and techniques. She absolutely broke through my cement body and made progress for me to getting and feeling better. I'll be going back for a follow up and another session with Alita in several weeks. She's a caring person and she has a special gift for making a person feeling better! Amen Thanks Alita!
